GDANSK BIOGRAPHIES – DAYS OF NATIONAL MINORITIES

Gdansk Biographies – Days of National Minorities is an event referring to historical traditions of multicultural Gdansk. This cycle of meetings aims at acquainting the public with the diversity and richness of the national minorities living among us.

The idea of the Gdansk meetings was born after Poland’s accession to the European Union. The idea of a cultural heritage community, maintaining respect for the national distinctness and the so-called “small homelands”, is close to the functioning of Gdansk, which has been a cultural melting pot. It is here that various nationalities who ended up in Gdansk area through storms of history have found their place – and their culture and customs left their mark on the culture of the city.

Gdansk Biographies are an occasion for the joint meeting and presentation of national minorities. They show what they deal with, what problems they encounter, and what their attitude to politics and culture of their mother countries is.
