Museum of Broken Relationships from Zagreb / Croatia: EMOTIONAL COLLECTION – UNIVERSAL CONNECTION
Presenter: Ivana Družetić, Head of Collection and Touring Exhibitions
Place: Sieroca 6 (future Daniel Chodowiecki and Günter Grass House)
Museum of Broken Relationships is a physical and virtual public space created with the sole purpose of treasuring and sharing your heartbreak stories and symbolic possessions. It is a museum about you, about us, about the ways we love and lose.
At a time where the biggest encyclopaedia is created by everyman, the museums of tomorrow need to step out of institutional confines and museum walls in order to stay relevant - to involve and connect visitors in meaningful ways across growing divides of class, community, and culture that seem to define our world. How can we tap the power of personal artefacts, universal emotions, local exhibitions, web activities, and international collections to foster profound experiences of personal, communal, and intercultural learning?
The presentation will give an overview of museums development, their efforts in creating its content and relating with their public, and present some of the most interesting moments from its touring exhibitions which have taken hundreds of thousands of visitors in 48 cities worldwide on an empathetic journey.
